ORCHARD: AFRICA: CARING FOR THE VULNERABLE

We were invited by Theuno Swart from Orchard:Africa to take hands with them on an outreach to the Christ Church in Strand to make a vegetable garden for the church.

DID YOU KNOW……Orchard: Africa started in 1991 as a church ministry in Mafikeng, South Africa in response to vulnerable children rummaging through the city garbage dump for food. A few people from a local church decided to cook a pot of food and feed these children. From this compassionate response, the organization, Orchard: Africa, was born.

The Christ church was planted in 2007 by Reverend Peter Makapela and his wife Mpumi. The church is situated in a Township known as Nomzamo in Strand just opposite Somerset West. This outreach was hard work but such a humble experience for our team. We are looking forward to seeing the first Harvest.

Thank you to Rev Peter for welcoming us and huge thank you to Theuno Swart from Orchard:Africa for arranging the day and to Communities of abundance for the donations of the poles, shade netting and the seedlings.
